Hosts Germany to name World Cup squad on deadline day

FRANKFURT, May 4 (Reuters) Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann will announce his squad for the World Cup on Monday, May 15 at 1630 hrs Ist in Berlin, the German Football Association announced today.

May 15 is deadline day for the 32 teams to name their 23-man squads, after FIFA rejected requests from some coaches, including Klinsmann, to put back the date to nearer the start of the June 9-July 9 tournament.

Hosts Germany will play a 60-minute warm-up game against amateur club FSV 63 Luckenwalde the day after the squad announcement and then fly to Sardinia for a five-day ''regeneration'' camp.

Klinsmann's squad are then based in Geneva from May 21 to May 30, although they will briefly return to Germany for a friendly international against Luxembourg in Freiburg on May 27.

They also have warm-up games scheduled against Japan (May 30, Leverkusen) and Colombia (June 2, Moenchengladbach) before they get the World Cup underway with a Group A game against Costa Rica in Munich on June 9.

The Germans go on to face Poland and Ecuador in the first round.
