Entire N E region in Earthquake zone 5: Bhagwan
Agartala, May 4 (UNI) North-Eastern states should introduce laws regarding construction of multi-storeyed buildings as the region fall under earthquake zone five.
Chennai based Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Assistant Engineer N G Bhagwan said at a seminar on 'Frown of Earthquake and Safe and Durable House' here yesterday that all the eight N E region states fall under earthquake zone five and the people of the region should use bamboo and wooden logs to avoid damage.
Two major earthquakes had rocked the region in 1900 and 1950. The 1950 earthquake in Asom caused heavy damages and several people had died, the scientist informed.
He suggested that the state governments of the region should go ahead with traditional huts which are believed to be earthquake resistant.
