Churchill Brothers draw with Army XI

Bangalore, May 4 (UNI) Much was at state for both the teams but Coca Cola Churchill Brothers and Army XI played out a 0-0 draw in the Final Round of the Second Division ONGC Cup 10th National Football League here today.

It was a crucial match for both the teams as a win would have enabled Army XI to share the top spot in the points table with Churchill, while the latter could have registered a berth for itself in the Senior Division.

The highlight of the first half was superb savings by Vinay Singh twiceonce in the 36th minute when Army skipper Thirunavakarasu shot a powerful kick, Fed by Anish Sharma and again when mid-fielder Irudaya Raj struck in the 40th minute.

The second half witnessed the ball moving from one end to the other, but not coming anywhere near the goal post as both the teams concentrated mainly on defending rather than scoring.

Despite the draw, the Goan outfit continued to lead the points table with 10 points from four matches, while Army XI stood in the second position with seven points from equal number of matches.
