Arrangements for annual Amarnath pilgrimage reviewed
Srinagar, May 4 (UNI) As the date of commencement of annual Amarnath pilgrimage is nearing, the Jammu and Kashmir government has reviewed the security and other arrangements for this year's yatra.
An official spokesman said the arrangements were reviewed at a high-level meeting with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Basharat Ahmed in the chair.
The two-month-long pilgrimage will start in the month of June and conclude on the day of Rakhsa Bandhan in August.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), the civil administration, police, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
Issues such as security, medicare, sanitation, accommodation, power and water supply, disaster management, transport facility, essential supplies and registration of pilgrims besides weather forecast and telephone facilities came up for discussion.
The meeting decided that the arrangements made for pilgrims last year would be augmented and enhanced by about 50 per cent this year as a heavy rush of devotees is expected.
