Allegation of spreading religion through politics wrong:Toppo

Ranchi, May 4 (UNI) Cardinal Telesphore Toppo has dismissed as rumour the BJP's allegation about his adopting politics to spread christianity.

The top catholic leader of the country took part in a function held here last evening to release the adivasi manifesto organised by the Adivasi Adhikar Morcha.

He strongly justified his being part of the function saying it was not a politcal organisation and there was nothing wrong in his assertion of tribal sentiments.

" I am a religious leader and also an adivasi. So I have to think of my community as well," Cardinal Toppo told reporters on the sidelines of the function.

When his attention was brought to the BJP's allegation that the religious leader was involved in organising such morchas to promote christianity, he said, the BJP keeps saying like that .

He said he was not at the function as a religious leader but as an adivasi and made it clear that he would attend programmes aimed at promoting the causes of other backward communites.
