34 people rescued while being trafficked to India
Dhaka, May 4 (UNI) Thirty-four people, including 19 women and 10 children, were held while they were being allegedly trafficked to India through Barakutighat frontier in Bangladesh's northern city of Rajshahi today.
Paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) chased the traffickers while they were taking the people on a boat for crossing the Padma river on their way to India, BDR sources said.
However, the BDR troops could not arrest the traffickers as they managed to escape.
The people told the BDR jawans that the traffickers brought them here from Narail, Meherpur, Magura and Kushtia districts on a promise to provide them with good jobs in Gujarat, India.
