Mahajan was described as potential PM by a newspaper in 1990

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) "Three have gone, what will happen to the fourth?" This was the intriguing query made by Mr Pramod Mahajan himself in 2001, when Tamil Nadu BJP leader Madan Gopal recalled that a newspaper write-up in 1990 had named him as one of the four candidates for the Prime Ministership along with Mr Rajiv Gandhi, Mr Madhavrao Scindia and Mr Rajesh Pilot.

According to BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, Mr Mahajan was in Chennai for releasing a stamp on Shivaji Ganesan in his capacity as the Communications Minister, when this conversation took place between him and Mr Gopal.

The newspaper article had appeared when Mr Mahajan was managing the 'rath yatra' of Mr Advani in 1990.
