DGP defends fine on Judge

Hyderabad, May 3 : Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Swaranjeet Sen defended the police action of writing a challan and imposing a fine on High Court Judge Mr Justice Narsimha Reddy for not wearing a seat belt while travelling by car yesterday.

Answering questions during chat with the media, he said even a judge was primarily a citizen and all the rules were applicable to him also. ''They are themselves the custodians of law.

If they violate, what are we to do. If we do not act, people will find fault with us and say that we taking action only on common people leaving the VIPs,'' he commented.

He, however, said he would take action if the policemen had acted rudely with the judge.
