Delhi to face Gujarat, Maharashtra in Boys and Girls team finals

Gurgaon, May 3 (UNI) Delhi overpowered spirited Tamil Nadu 2-1 to set up a title clash with Gujarat in the (Boys -18) Inter-State tennis tournament here today.

In the girls section, Delhi blanked Bengal 2-0 in the semifinals and will meet Maharashtra in the finals.

Gujarat chalked out an easy 2-0 win over Punjab in the second semifinals of the boys team event while Maharashtra Girls also recorded a 2-0 win over Karnataka in the other semifinal in that section.

It was once again Rubal Shandilya led Delhi to victory. He easily won his single against G Priyank 6-1, 6-2 to give his side a 1-0 lead against Tamil Nadu. However G Prajnesh drew parity for the visitors when he defeated Rahul Belwal 6-4, 6-0.

In the crucial doubles Rubal and Rahul combined well to overpower Prajnesh and Tariq Jacob 7-5, 7-5 to give Delhi the win.

In the other semifinal Gujarat overran Punjab. Vishesh Bhatia overcame a first set loss to win the next two to emerge 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Manav Dhawan.

Gujarat wrapped up the tie when Allan Gomes made short work of Gursher Singh 6-4, 6-0.

Delhi girls outlasted their Bengal rivals in the semis. Sanjana Kapoor beat gritty Treta Bhattacharya 6-4, 6-7(5) and then Vishakha Shoeran sealed the tie defeating Shivika Burman 6-3, 6-2.

Maharashtra girls overcame stiff challenge from Karnataka in the second semifinal.

Samaoda Kanade gave Maharashtra the lead overpowering Anushree Thammanna 6-2, 7-6(6) and then Parija Maloo made it 2-0 beating Akshita B Raj 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Other results: Boys: Punjab finished third beating Tamil Nadu 2-1 Manav Dhawan bt G Priyank 6-2; 6-2, Gursher Singh lost G Prajnesh (TN) 0-6; 0-6.

Doubles Manav Dhawan/Gursher Singh(Pun) bt Tariq Jacob/G Prajnesh 3-6; 6-3; 6-4 Maharashta beat Karnataka 2-0 to take the fifth place Akash Gujrati bt Sujith 6-1; 6-0, Akash Wagh bt Preetam 6-1; 6-2.

Girls: Bengal beat Karnataka 2-0 for the third place Treta Bhattacharya bt Anushree Thammanna 6-3; 4-0(Retire) Shivika Burman bt Akshitha B Raj 3-0((Retire) Gujarat beat Uttaranchal 2-0 to claim the fifth place Bhoomi Parmar bt Megha Bangari 6-1; 6-0, Shaili Trivadi bt Asshi Dutta 6-0; 6-0 UNI HSB PG ND2024
