Delhi Metro celebrates 11th Foundation Day
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) celebrated its 11th Foundation Day today with Managing Director E Sreedharan praising his staff for breaking new records and striving hard to maintain high work and efficiency standards.
Work on the second phase of the project was progressing well, he said while pointing out that a world record 36.5 km of new lines and 34 stations were commissioned by the DMRC last year.
As many as 4.5 lakh passengers were being served through 1,100 train trips every day by the DMRC presently, he informed. Delhi Metro is one among just four of the 135 metro rail corporations in the world which has been reporting operational profit, he added.
Twenty-three officers and staff received the Managing Director's Award for outstanding work in 2005-2006 on the occasion.
Group Station Manager, Central Secretariat and Patel Chowk Metro stations Devendra Sharma was declared 'Metroman of the Year' while the Inderlok station received the 'Best Station' award for 2005-06.
Delhi Transport and Power Minister Haroon Yusuf presented the awards.
