Curfew relaxation period extended in riot-hit areas
Vadodara, May 3: Indefinite curfew, clamped in the City and Navapura police station areas of Vadodara yesterday, was relaxed for the first time from 0500 hrs to 0700 hrs.
However, four other police station areas -- Panigate, Wadi, Raopura and Karelibaug, where curfew was relaxed today for two hours, would have a 9-hour relaxation tomorrow from 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs.
According to Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop, the decision to give two hours curfew relaxation tomorrow was taken following a marked improvement in the law and order situation in the two areas during the last 24 hours.
Mr Swaroop said around 50 people had so far been arrested in the house-to-house combing operation in the riot-hit areas and it would be intensified tonight to nab those allegedly involved in the riots.
The police chief said he had convened the peace committee meeting tonight to restore communal harmony and peace in the city.
Meanwhile, incidents of stone-pelting and riots were reported from Sultanpura, Ajvadi Mills, Fatehpura and Ajwa road. But situation was said to be under control.
