AIADMK resort to roadroko following attack on activist
Tiruchirapalli, May 3 (UNI) Tense situation prevailed at Crawford area, on the outskirts of the city last night, when a group of AIADMK men including the party's Trichy-II assembly constituency candidate M Mariam Pitchai staged a roadblock demanding arrest of DMK men, who had allegedly beaten up a local speaker of AIADMK during an election campaign.
The trouble surfaced when the AIADMK' speaker, who was campaigning for the party, was allegedly beaten up by a group of DMK men, led by a DMK Councillor of the city corporation.
When the news spread, Pitchai, who was also in that area for the campaign immediately resorted to a roadblock agitation, demanding arrrest of the DMK Councillor and his supporters.
However, senior police officials intervened and pacified the agitating AIADMK men and assured to take action against those involved in the attack.
Later, the AIADMK men withdrew their agitation.
Due to the agitation, vehicular traffic on the busy Tiruchirapalli-Madurai Highway, was affected for more than an hour.
The injured AIADMK man was admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital here.
A case has been registered and an investigation, was underway, police added.
