Unprecedented security cover in TN: CEO

Chennai, May 02 (UNI) Unprecedented security cover will be thrown in Tamil Nadu for the May eight Assembly elections to ensure that the poll process is completed in a peaceful and fair manner.

Talking to newspersons here, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta said Tamil Nadu would have 196 companies of para-military forces, including armed forces, a big rise over previous elections.

In the 2001 Assembly elections, 111 companies of para-military forces had been deployed and in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, 125 companies had provided security cover.

In all, 60 of the 234 constituencies had been identified as sensitive and adequate forces would be deployed in these constituencies, he said.

He said two special observers had already arrived and five more would be arriving soon to the state. These observers would keep a vigil on sensitive constituencies, he added.

Answering a question, he said action would be taken if complaints were given on poll code violations.
