Two arrested for conspiracy to kill UMA Kashyap

New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) Police have arrested two people who were allegedly involve in a conspiracy to kill Roorkee-based politician Uma Kashyap, prime witness in the Phoolan Devi murder case.

Javed alias Babboo and Anuj Pundhir were arrested in a joint operation by Delhi Police and Uttaranchal police for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to kill Ms Kashyap, police said.

During interrogation they revealed that Sher Singh Rana, the prime accused in the Phoolan Devi murder case, had contacted them and promised them to pay ''contract money''of Rs 1.5 lakh if they killed Ms Kashyap.

''Rana had directed them to make all the arrangements and buy the weapon,'' Police said.

Anuj has asked Rana to transfer the money in an account of Union Bank of India, police added.

Police said Javed was to execute the plan with the help of one Sanjay Kamboje of Roorkee.

Javed was also wanted in another case where he had robbed Rs 3 lakh form a bank.

On April 24, Delhi Police arrested Sher Singh Rana from Dharamtalla area in Kolkata more than two years after he escaped from the high security Tihar Jail here.
