Twentyfour killed, 13 injured in bus accident

Thane, May 2 (UNI) At least 24 people were killed and several others injured, some of them seriously, when the bus in which they were travelling hit the parapet of a bridge and fell into the Chena river in Chena village in this district around noon today.

Thirteen injured have been admitted to the Thane Civil Hospital, according to police sources.

The mishap occurred when the heavily loaded Thane-bound bus from Bhayander crashed into the parapet wall of the bridge and plunged into the rivulet at 1245 hrs.

Fifteen bodies have been removed so far and massive rescue and relief operations have been launched, the sources said.

Fire engines and a team of doctors have rushed to the site, which was also visited by Thane Mayor Rajendra Vichare.
