Twenty four killed, 13 injured as bus falls into Chena river

Thane, May 2 (UNI) At least 24 people were killed when a packed bus crashed into the parapet of a bridge and fell into the Chena river in Chena village in this district around noon today.

According to police sources, 13 injured passengers have been admitted to the Thane Civil Hospital.

The accident occurred at 1245 hrs when the heavily loaded Thane-bound bus from Bhayander crashed into the parapet wall of the bridge and plunged into the river.

Fifteen bodies have been removed so far.

Massive rescue and relief operations have been launched, the sources said.

Fire engines and a team of doctors have been rushed to the accident site, which was also visited by Thane Mayor Rajendra Vichare.
