Srinath, Sekar hold trials of Kashmiri fast bowlers

Srinagar, May 2 (UNI) Former Indian fast bowlers Javagal Srinath and T A Sekar conducted the trials of more than 50 young Kashmiri pacers here today on the first day of the two-day camp.

Over 200 young Kashmiri fast bowlers within the age-group of 15 to 20 years had registered themsleves for the trials at the Sher-i- Kashmir Cricket Stadium here.

The fast bowlers selected after the trials would be trained at the MRF Pace Foundation.

Talking to reporters, Srinath said the Valley has a lot of potential as far as the fast bowlers are concerned.

''The MRF Pace Foundation felt the need of conducting trials here after we saw the performance and emergence of two young fast bowlers from the Valley - Abid Nabi and Samiullah,'' he added.

Srinath said the youngsters from Kashmir were talented and have keen interest in cricket, but they need proper exposure.

''There is also a need to put in place the infrastructure,'' he said, adding the MRF Pace Foundation coaches will visit the Valley more frequently now.
