Show cause notice to two corporators

Gwalior, MP, May 2 (UNI) A show cause notice has been issued to leader of opposition and another corporator of the Gwalior Municipal Corporation (GMC) asking them why they should not be removed from their posts for undertaking unauthorised foreign travel on the GMC's expenditure, official sources said today.

Gwalior Divisional Commissioner Komal Singh has issued notices to Devendra Singh and Sudhir Gupta asking them to reply by May 16.

The show cause notice said the Madhya Pradesh Urban Administration and Development department had granted approval for travel to Amsterdam in July 11, 2003 on the condition that the expense will be borne by the HUDCO and not the government or the GMC.

However, HUDCO expressed its inability to bear the expense, which was eventually borne by the GMC. Subsequently, government took steps for the recovery of the amount from the concerned.

As the travel comes under unauthorised category, the continuance of the two corporators was not in the GMC's welfare.

The corporators were asked why they should not be removed under section 19 (1) of the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and why they should not be disqualified for the next five years under section 19 (2).
