Patil visits massacre site in Basantgarh

Jammu, May 2 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today visited Basantgarh in Udhampur district and interacted with the relatives of those killed in the militant attacks yesterday.

Mr Patil along with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad assured the people that the entire country is with them in this hour of grief.

Whatever is required to be done to protect the life and property of the people particularly those living in hilly and far-flung areas would be done by the government, Mr Patil said.

The Minister also complimented the people of the state for maintaining communal harmony, unity and amity that has helped in frustrating the nefarious designs of those who wanted to create a wedge among the people.

Those resorting to killing of innocents are enemies of humanity, peace and development and no religion allows killing of innocents, Mr Patil noted.

Mr Azad issued on the spot instructions to the deputy commissioner of Udhampur for immediate disbursement of ex-gratia relief to the next of kin of those killed in the incident.

Later, Mr Patil also visited government medical college hospital and enquired about the condition of the those injured in the attacks.

The Minister and Chief Minister interacted with the injured and issued instructions to the hospital authorities to provide best possible medicare facilities to them for their early recovery.

At least 35 Hindus were killed and ten others injured by militants in separate incidents in the districts of Doda and Udhampur of Jammu region yesterday.
