No traffic on national highway due to stir
Imphal, May 2 (UNI) No vehicles plied on NH-53 for the seventh day today as the Imphal-Silchar road transporters welfare society has called a stir protesting harassment of drivers and demand of money by militants.
The socieity said lakhs of rupees have been demanded and the militants told transporters to suspend all vehicle service on the highway until the monetary demand was fulfilled.
Due to the stir and suspension of all services all communication with Jiribam the border town were cut off as the National Highway (NH) serves as the lifeline.
Members of the society said they cannot give the money as it had no resources. Some drivers were also beaten up for driving vehicles on the highway by cadres of the militants group, demanding money.
