Inmates of NDMC hostels locked up on premises
New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) The inmates of the Akansha-Aradhna hostel in Mandi House, falling under New Delhi Municipal corporation (NDMC), were today locked up on the hostel premises for half an hour by the authorities.
The incident took place when a television channel came to the hostel to talk to the inmates about their problems, mainly inadequate security and doubling of the mess fee.
''When I wanted to talk to the media people about our problems the warden got the gate of the hostel locked for half an hour and didn't let us go out, '' said Savitri, one of the inmates of the hostel.
Situated on the Bhagwan Dass Lane near Mandi house, Akansha-Aradhna is one of the three hostels falling under the NDMC jurisdiction, others being Indira Niketan and Swati.
The inmates of this hostel have been agitating against lack of security, doubling of the mess fee apart from the poor quality of food served here.
''Just because we are raising our voice against the injustice we have to meet with such treatment, added Rashmi, another inmate of this hostel.
On Sunday, the agitating inmates had marched to the residence of Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and discussed their problems with her.
The CM had asked for week's time to resolve the matter.
On the other hand, the inmates said NDMC Director (welfare) Ranjana Deswal had refused to listen to their problems.
