New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) India and the United States today reiterated their commitment to work together to enhance energy security.

''A strategic India-US partnership in building the capacity to plan and implement energy efficiency will help advance India's energy security and mitigate the environmental impact of rapid energy growth,'' said US Charge d'Affairs Rober Blake while speaking at a conference on Energy Efficiency Technology Cooperation.

The two-day conference jointly organised by the Power Ministry, CII, USAID and US Department of Energy will examine the barriers to energy efficiency in India and identify ways to open energy efficiency markets.

Identifying practices that help the public and private sector to increase energy efficiency, improve exchange of technology, establish industrial codes and standards and develop innovative financing are part of the objectives of the conference.

The Energy Efficiency Technology Cooperation comes under the Power and Energy Efficiency Working Group, which is part of the India-US Energy Dialogue launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President George Bush in May last year.

The working group promotes exchange of information, technology choices and regulatory policies.
