IIM Cal first director dead

Kottayam, May 2 (UNI) The first Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, K T Chandy, died here today.

He was 93 and is survived by his wife and five children.

Chandy, a doyen of management, made innumerable contributions to management development and practices in the country.

He was Chairman, Food Corporation of India, Hindustan Steels, Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, National Productivity Council, Metallurgical Research Institute, Ranchi, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation and Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram.

He had also served as Vice-Chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board, Member, University Grants Commission, Member, Asian Productivity Organisation and Promoter, Indian Society for Mathematical Research and Kerala Forest Research Institute, Thrissur.

A recipient of many awards, including the Asian Productivity Organisation Award for 1980, Chandy left his footprints on management thought and practices in India.

The funeral would take place tomorrow, family sources said.
