Heavy voter turnout in Kerala repoll
Kozhikode, May 2 (UNI) Heavy voter turn out was recorded in repolling in the two booth of Nadapuram and Perinthalmanna Assembly seats in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts respectively today.
The booth at Kakkamvelli U P School in Nadapuram, with 1,096 registered voters, recorded 80.83 per cent polling while the other at Keezhattur Poothanam UP school polled 86.5 per cent votes out of a total 1,298 electorate.
The repoll was ordered following detection of discrepancies in electronic voting machines on Saturday.
United Democratic Front candidate M Veerankutty (Cong) is taking on his nearest Left Democratic Front rival and sitting MLA Benoy Viswam in Nadapuram while P Abdul Majeed of the Indian Union Muslim League is locking horns with Sasikumar of CPI(M) in Perinthalmanna.
The poll process, held amid tight security, was peaceful as no untoward incident was reported, sources said.
