General strike begins tonight

Imphal, May 2 : A 20 hour general strike to protest an alleged fake surrender ceremony will begin today midnight and continue till 0800 hrs tomorrow.

The strike was called by joint action committee against the alleged fake surrender. Five youths, who participated in a surrender ceremony on March last, later said they were not militants but forced to act as militants by Assam Rifles and surrender.

As ordered by the court two youths were released. The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has stated that no cadres of the organisation surrendered as claimed by army and Assam Rifles.

L Ibomcha MLA has asked thre state government to do something on the incident. Something is wrong which needs to be properly locked into, he demanded.

The PIB (Defence Wing) has stated that all the youths who surrendered were militants and they had changed their statement fearing action from their previous organisations.
