Freebies in violation of code, says Sushma
Chennai, May 2 (UNI) Perturbed by the freebies offered by the ruling AIADMK and opposition DMK to woo voters for the May eight Assembly elections in Tamilnadu, the BJP today demanded that the Election Commission take action against the two dravidian parties for poll code violation.
Talking to media, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, who was here to campaign for the party candidates, said the freebies were in violation of the model code of conduct.
Despite being in power in the state for long, the two parties had failed to fulfill the needs of the people and implement whatever schemes they were announcing now, she said.
Coming down heavily on the AIADMK and DMK for pursuing politics of 'hatred and vengeance', she said the BJP had decided to go it alone to change the 'deteriorating political culture' in the state. The Dravidian parties' politics of hatred hampered development, she said.
Demanding that Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran be divested of the Communication portfolio in view of the Tata DTH controversy, she said it had always been the practice that a Minister should not be in charge of matters of personal interest. It was strange Mr Maran had a portfolio, under which his family business fell, she said.
