Financial, socio-economic issues to figure in ADB seminars

Hyderabad, May 2 (UNI) Basel II norms, e-services and strategies for improving infrastructure in rural areas will be among the various issues to be discussed threadbare during a series of seminars to be held as part of the ADB meet beginning here tomorrow.

Country presentations would be made by Azerbaijan (May three), Indonesia (May four), Philippines(May five) and China(May six), the bank said.

Leading government and private sector representatives will discuss ''The Challenges and Implications of Basel II for Asia'' on the inaugural day as also Economic Capital Management (in cooperation with Moody's KMV) and ''Policy and Institutional Frameworks for Improving Rural Infrastructure (in cooperation with IDFC Ltd).

As part of Knowledge Seminars, a session will be held on ''Knowledge-Based Economies in the 21st Century'' and ''Transforming Asian Economies with E-Services'' in the afternoon.

On May four, Governors seminar on ''A Shared Responsibility: Fixing Global Payments Imbalances'' will be held as also Asian Economic Integration Seminar ''Thinking Globally, Acting Regionally.'' A session on ''Private Capital Flows and Financial Market Development in Asia (in cooperation with the Institute of International Finance) will be held on May five, as also ''Infrastructure Development through Public Private Partnership (in cooperation with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd.) ''Labor Market Strategies for Inclusive Growth'' and Infrastructure Beyond Borderswill be discussed later in the day.

On the concluding day,'' Institutional Investors Roundtable: People's Republic of China and India: State of Affairs and Implications for Private Equity'' will be held as also a session on ''Unlocking the Benefits of Securitization in Asia's Capital Markets''(in cooperation with Standard and Poor's) and ''Integration of Asian Financial Markets (in cooperation with State Bank of India).

''Sustainable Energy Development in Asia: The Next Frontier'' will also be held.

Though Civil Society Open Forum ''Health Investment for Economic Growth: Building Blocks of Pro-Poor Development'' to be held on May three was not part of the Annual Meeting Seminar Series but it was a forum open to all participants,'' it said.
