Madurai, May 2 : Dalit leader and Puthiya Thamizhagam (PT) president K Krishnasamy has charged the DMK with hijacking the party's long-held demand of land for the landless and presenting it as its own in the election manifesto.

Releasing the PT's manifesto for the May eight Assembly election here yesterday he said told newspersons the DMK was only using it as a slogan to garner votes. However, he was happy at the party's land reform programme finding a place in mainstream agenda.

Doubting the sincerity and commitment of the DMK in implementing the programme if voted to power, he said there was sufficient land available for distribution.

On the slogan, 'Dalit Chief Minister in State and Dalit Prime Minister at the Centre' in the manifesto, he said the PT aligning with the BSP was an effort in that direction.

He said both the parties shared similar vision and ideology Taking a dig at the competitive populism indulged in by the DMK and the AIADMK as well as the DMDK of filmstar Vijaykanth, he said these parties, without ensuring employment generation through constructive programmes, were offering only freebies undermining democracy and making a mockery of the electoral system.

The PT, which is contesting on BSP's elephant symbol, has fielded 77 candidates while the BSP is in the fray in 98 constituencies.
