Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab win on day 2 of inter-state tennis
Gurgaon, May 2 (UNI) Delhi, Chandigarh and Punjab boys blanked their rivals from Karnataka, Orissa and West Bengal on day two of the Inter-State Tennis Tournament here today.
In the boys under-18 category, Chandigarh blanked Orissa with Ashwani overcoming a first set deficit to beat Chinmay Pradhan 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4 and Shaolin thrashing Surya 6-0, 6-2.
Delhi boys Rubal and Rahul Belwal were in aggressive mood as they swept away Suraj and Preetam in straight sets to earn a 2-0 win against Karnataka.
For Punjab, Anmol Singh dropped the first set and then rallied from behind to tame Baibhav Das while Manav Dhawan had to toil in the middle to beat Arkaprabha of West Bengal 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2.
In other ties in this section, Gujarat beat Maharshtra 2-0, Rajasthan thrashed Uttaranchal, Tamil Nadu trounced Haryana and Maharashta downed Rajasthan -- all by 2-0 margin.
In the girls section, a team from West Bengal beat Uttar Pradesh, another Bengal team pounded Uttaranchal with none of the players dropping a single game and Maharashtra defeated Chandigarh 2-0.
