Dadua wounded in encounter, aide killed

Chitrakoot, May 2 (UNI) Dreaded dacoit Dadua -- carrying a bounty of Rs 2.5 lakh on his head -- was allegedly wounded and one of his aides killed in an encounter with the police in Karbi area of the district today.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachi Ghildiyal said Satyawati, the wife of Dadua's right-hand Radhe, had informed the police of the presence of the bandit and his 16-17 member gang at Shitalpur village.

Sensing trouble, the dacoits started to flee firing at the cops.

The police also returned the fire.

According to the SP, Dadua sustained a bullet wound in the gun fight, while one of his aides was killed. He was later identified as Subodh Singh Patel.

A sophisticated rifle and three cartons of live cartridges were recovered from the spot.

Dadua has over 225 cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. He has successfully eluded arrest for over two decades now.

Meanwhile, state home secretary Jagannath Singh said at Lucknow a news channel crew was shooting in this dacoit infested district this morning.

The crew was escorted by a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) sleuths led by Ms Ghildiyal. For the purpose of shooting, they reached Shitalpur and came to know of the presence of dacoits, that resulted in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the combing operation have been launched.
