Cultivate crops which have support price: AP CM

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, May 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy today appealed to farmers to cultivate only those crops for which a minimum support price was assured.

Inaugurating the five-day state-wide "Farmers meet" here, he advised them to avoid cultivation of chillies which brought grief to them as a result of glut and the consequent crash of prices.

"But grow maize instead, there is minimum suport price for it", he added.

The Chief Minister announced that the chain of agricultural market yards in the state will sell fertilisers and pesticides to farmers at reasonable prices.

He assured the water-starved Krishna delta farmers that the waters of river Godavari from the proposed Polavaram project will be diverted to the Krishna river. "This will be done despite the obstacles created by the opposition parties", he added.

The Chief Minister promised to complete the Rs 950 crore Pulichintala Project on the River Krishna in two years, "come what may".
