Churchill Brothers defeat SBT 1-0

Bangalore, May 2 (UNI) Churchill Brothers trounced State Bank of Travancore 1-0 to take the lead in the points table in the Final Round of the Second Division ONGC Cup 10th National Football League here today.

The all important goal was scored in the very third minute when Freddy Mascarenhas scored a solo goal with Bank custodian Jean Christian looking and overcoming defender N P Pradeep.

After opening the account, the Goans did not attempt much to increase the lead, while Bankmen, despite having control over the ball, failed to encash on many a chance due to poor finishing.

Churchill custodian Vinay Singh and Brazilian striker Osumanu Hussaini showed their superb skill in defence. Both protected their fort magnificiently and scuttled a couple of attempts by Bankmen.

With this win, Churchill Brothers led the points table with nine points after having won all the three matches, while SBT had only one point to its credit from equal number of matches.
