Addl CRPF, CISF to be deployed for free and fair poll: Kumar
Santiniketan, May 2 (UNI) Deputy Election Commissioner Anand Kumar today said additional company of security forces will be deployed in Birbhum district to conduct free and fair fourth phase polling tomorrow.
After visiting Nanur in Suchpur following a complaint by local Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondol, Mr Kumar said security would be further beefed up in Panpuri village in Nanur.
The Trinamool leader had complained that the criminals, allegedly involved in Suchpur mass murder case, were threatening local people to boycott the polls.
Mr Kumar had visited the villagers and monitored the law and order situation in the area. He had assured the voters that they would be able to cast their votes without any fear.
Mr Kumar also met Bolpur Sub-Divisional Officer Tarun Kanti Sinha and discussed the overall situation.
Birbhum Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Singh said 91 companies of para military forces had already been deployed in the district.
The Jharkhand border with district had been sealed and 25 Observers would be present during tomorrow's election.
At least 17,81,256 people will exercise their franchise in Birbhum district to decide the fate of 63 candidates from 12 constituencies. Apart from Birbhum, Bardhaman and Murshidabad will go to tomorrow's polls.
