Aanganwadi workers campaign helps checking foeticide
Chandigarh, May 2 (UNI) The male-female ratio in the states which was 793 females per thousand males in 2001, has improved to 820 in February this year.
In Jaunary, the ratio was 814, an offical release today stated.
The door-to-door campaign launched by the Aanganwadi workers in the state for checking foeticide has finally started yielding results with the male-female ratio in the age group of 0-6 years showing some improvement in the last six months. The ratio has improved from 809 in the state since December last year.
During the campaign the aanganwadi workers identified pregnant women and urged them not to abort the unborn female child. In all, 14,730 aanganwadi Centres are involved in this campaign which is still in progress.
