60 injured in South Dinajpur, nine serious

Balurghat, May 2 (UNI) More than 60 people were injured, nine of them seriously, in a bus accident here in South Dinajpur District today.

Out of these 60 people, at least 30 were students.

Police said the accident, which took place six kms from Balurghat, after the vehicle's wheel spring broke down and the driver lost control.

Police said overloading of the bus might have been the cause of the accident. The bus was going to Tapan of the same district.

The injured were rushed to Balurghat District Hospital.

State Social welfare and Jail Minister Biswanath Choudhury, CPI (M) leader Narayan Biswas, Congress leader Tapan Kanti Dev and others visited the hospital.

Mr Choudhury has assured of all medical support to the injured.
