UP MLA Mukhtar Ansari appears before court
Ghazipur, UP, May 1 (UNI) Don-turned-Independent MLA from Mau in Uttar Pradesh Mukhtar Ansari today appeared before the court in a case pertaining to 1996.
The Mau legislator and his supporters had fired upon the then ASP Udayshankar Jaiswal during a vehicle checking drive.
When Ansari was made accused in last year's Mau communal riots, he cancelled his bail and went to jail in the 1996 case.
The court fixed May 8 as the next date of hearing.
Later, the fast track court also accepted the application of Ghazipur district jail superintendent to send Ansari to the King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow for check-up.
On another application, Judge Mohd Hussain also allowed the controversial MLA to attend the next UP assembly session.
The judge ordered during the term of the assembly session, he would be lodged at the Lucknow prison and escorted back to Ghazipur jail when the session ends.
In yet another application, the court allowed Ansari to appear before the Magistrate in Lucknow on May 3 in a case.
