Sidhu criticises Dravidian parties for hollow promises

Chennai, May 1 (UNI) Cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu today accused the Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu of making hollow promises with an eye on the assembly polls in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, the BJP National Executive Committee member, who is here on a campaign trail, likened the ruling AIADMK and the opposition DMK to a bamboo tree which looks tall, but is hollow within.

On the freebies like Rs two a kg rice and free colour TVs doled out by the DMK, he said ''you can fool some people for some time. But you cannot fool all the people all the time''.

During the interaction, which was laced with wit and humour, the flamboyant former Indian opener said ''the DMK is like a golden drum, which makes lot of noise.'' About the performance of the AIADMK during the last five years and the sops announced by it, Sidhu said ''the promises looked tall like a bamboo tree. But is hollow within''.

Mixing euphemism and his trade mark ''siddhuisms'', the MP from Amritsar said ''Man of words and not in deeds is like a garden full of weeds'', when asked about the poll promises.

''It's a clear indication of opportunism as the elections are nearing. It's a clear case of unfulfilled promises,'' he added.

The promises of the Dravidian Parties were hollow. This was the precise reason for the BJP to go it alone in the elections to strengthen its base to remain self-reliant.
