Sailor's father condemns Suryanarayan's murder
New Delhi, May 1: The father of an Indian sailor, killed allegedly near Kenya last year, has condemned the murder of the expatriate Indian K Suryanarayan by his Taliban abductors and called upon the Muslim clergy to ''raise voice'' against such killings.
''We vehemently condemn the assassination of Indian telecom engineer K Suryanarayan. We appeal to Islamic clerics of the entire world to raise voice against this gruesome murder'', Zaheer Zaidi, who started the Hasan Marine Foundation in memory of his 23-year-old son, marine engineer Hasan Zaheer, said in a statement.
The Government should do its best to secure the life of Indians working abroad, he added.
Hasan Zaheer was one among 13 Indian seafarers allegedly killed in four different high sea incidents between September 23-October 13, 2005, he said. Only the body of Gurgaon-based Gautam Malik was recovered.
The body of Suryanarayan, abducted by the Taliban last Friday, was recovered yesterday.
