Rae Bareli, May 1 (UNI) Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi today undertook 'padyatra' in Lalganj town, seeking votes for Congress chief and his mother Sonia Gandhi, who is seeking a re-election to Lok Sabha from Rae Bareli constituency.

Rahul -- who is Sonia's campaign manager -- walked on foot for nearly two kms interacting with the electorate in the run up to the May 8 LS bypoll.

Addressing a public meeting at Behtakalan, he reminded the local people of their ''family terms'' with the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Urging them to ensure his mother's victory by a huge margin, Rahul said the people had voted for the Congress president in large numbers in the last LS polls.

''We are trying to usher in development in Rae Bareli with the help of the Centre. However, we are also facing a lot of challenges on this front due to the non-Congress regime in UP,'' he said.

He maintained a lot had been done in the last two years in the segment and the process of development would continue unhindered.

Rahul was accompanied by former union minister and senior Congress leader Capt Satish Sharma.

The Rae Bareli bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of Ms Gandhi from the LS seat on March 23 over the office of profit controversy.
