'Put a cap of 7 % interest on housing loans' : BJP

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) BJP today strongly criticised the government for taking anti-people measures like allowing the hike on the home loans and asked the government to direct the banks to put a ceiling of seven per cent on its lending for housing and agriculture sectors.

BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the home loans which used to cost six per cent interest during the NDA had now touched 9.5 per cent while the depositors were getting no hiked interest rates. The banks were giving loans to the industries at seven to eight per cent while refusing to give the same terms to the housing sector.

The banks were given a free hand to fleece the customers with the government sitting idle. This kind of situation is no good for housing industry or employment generation, he added.
