Project to establish international trade link with NE
Shillong, May 1 (UNI) The final report of the project 'NE State Trade and Investment Creation Initiative' is expected to be ready by June, which aims to exploit the locational advantages of the North Eastern states with Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Bhutan and Nepal.
The project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will identify the products in which the North East has a comparative advantage and the trading points for promoting business, an official release said here today.
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) will finalise the report after consultations with the North Eastern states, the North Eastern Council (NEC), the Planning Commission and the concerned Central Ministries.
The ADB, through its technical assistance, seeks to develop a trade and investment framework for enabling North Eastern India to better position itself in global and regional markets and to reap the gains from specialisation and agglomeration of economies and globalisation.
The project also seeks to identify policies, legal and constitutional constraints hampering trade and develop an export facility for the region.
