Mirwaiz to lead six-member Hurriyat team at talks with PM

Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Moderate Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will lead a six-member amalgam delegation at the talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on May 3.

The other members of the Hurriyat delegation are Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Bilal Ghani Lone, Fazal Haq Qureshi and Aga Syed Hassan.

The names were announced by the Mirwaiz after a marathon five- hour-long meeting of the Executive Council, the Working Committee and the General Council at the amalgam headquarters here.

The high-profile delegation comprised of all the six members of Executive Council, the highest decision-making body of the Hurriyat Conference.

Significantly, Aga Hassan, who was recently admitted in the Hurriyat Executive Council, is the new entrant in the delegation as the other members have taken part in the first round of talks with the Prime Minister on September 5 last year.

While Mirwaiz Farooq represents the Awami Action Committee in the separatist conglomerate, Prof Bhat belongs to the Muslim Conference, Bilal Ghani Lone is from the People's Conference, Maulana Ansari is the leader of the Itehad-ul-Muslimeen, Mr Qureshi represents the People's Political Front and Aga Hassan is the head of the Anjuman-e-Shara-i-Shian.

Mr Qureshi shot into limelight when he acted as a mediator between the Centre and the pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit in 2000.
