May Day was observed in Tripura

Agartala, May 1 (UNI) May Day was observed in Tripura with various programmes undertaken by the trade unions of both ruling Left Front and opposition Congress.

The day began with colourful processions as the state enjoyed a holiday today. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar congratulated and greeted the people on the occassion.

In a statement the Chief Minister said the party would continue to fight against monopoly and capitalism.

To protect the rights earned through long fight, he said, one had to keep fighting for a democratic process. The unity and brotherhood among poor and labourers should be strengthened. All efforts of vested interests trying to create division among workers in the name of caste and religion should be foiled, the chief minister said.

For the interest of country and state's progress, to protect peace and tranquility, workers must come forwrd to foil any attempt of consipiracy by anti-country and imperialist forces, Mr Sarkar said.

All the trade union offices in the state was decorated with respective flag and festoons. In the morning trade union flags were hoisted by various union leaders in front of their offices.
