Malda, May 1 (UNI) Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee today criticised the Left Front government for not rehabilitating those people who became homeless following the Ganga erosion.

Addressing an election rally here, Ms Banerjee said her party would try to solve these problems once the party comes to power.

She urged the Hindus and the Muslim communities to vote for her party.

''The Congress at the Centre and the Left Front in West Bengal are 'allies.' The Congress wants the CPI(M) to win in the assembly elections,'' she added.

Talking about A B A Ghani Khan Chowdhury, who recently passed away, she said, ''Mr Khan Chowdhury was like a father figure in this district.I want to work for this state in his absence.'' Malda, Darjeeling, South and North Dinajpur and Coochbehar will go to the polls on May 8 in the fifth and final phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal.
