Vellore, Tamil Nadu, May 1 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today came down heavily on the DMK's poll promises, terming them false and also not feasible.

On a whirlwind campaign of Katpadi Assembly constituency in support of her party nominee S Narayanan, Ms Jayalalithaa said during 1996 elections, the DMK promised in its manifesto that Rs 1000 would be fixed as remunerative price for a tonne of sugarcane but failed to implement it when it came to power.

The AIADMK, which assumed office in 2001, fixed Rs 2,014 as the remunerative price for a tonne of sugarcane. In fact, the AIADMK Government had implemented several schemes like distribution of free cycles and free textbooks to school children though it never made the promises in its election manifesto.

DMK President M Karunanidhi had lost his confidence of his party getting absolute majority to form a government after the May Assembly elections and hence fielded his party candidates in 129 seats with the rest going to the alliance parties with the hope of at least forming an coalition government, she alleged.

But the people of Tamil Nadu do not like a coalition Ministry, she claimed.

Later, addressing a wayside meeting here in support of Marumalarchi DMK Nominee for Vellore Assembly constituency Mr N Subramanian, the Chief Minister said she was very keen to implement her promises without any interruption.

She was planning to increase the state's revenues in several ways to help implement several welfare measures for the benefit of the people.

Later, Ms Jayalalithaa addressed several wayside meetings at Pallikonda, Virichipuram which comes under the Anaikattu Assembly constituency where her Cabinet colleague K Pandurangan was seeking relection.
