Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall while plains had light rains resulting in cold weather.

However, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking the valley with the rest of the country, was open and all incoming and outgoing flight operated normally.

Official sources said the upper reaches had fresh snowfall since early this morning resulting a drop in the temperature.

Light snowfall was experienced at Khilanmarg while world famous ski resort of Gulmarg had rains, much to the delight of tourists.

The Zojila and Gumri on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway also experienced about six inches of snowfall. The highway was closed on November 1, last year due to snowfall. However, Border Road Organisation (BRO) has used sophisticated machines to clear the snow from the highway.

About 10 to 20 feet of snow had accumulated between Zojila to Drass, sources said.

About one feet of fresh snowfall was recorded at holy Amarnath cave while six inches to eight inches of snowfall was experienced at Panjtherni, Mahaguns and Sheshnag.

The Srinagar city and its adjoining areas experienced rains this afternoon resulting in a drop temperature.
