Digital cameras to be installed for assembly polls
Pondicherry, May 1 (UNI) For the first time, digital cameras would be used in all the polling stations in Mahe, Palloor and Yanam constituencies for the assembly elections in the Union Territory on May three in the first phase, District Election Officer and District Collector Theva Neethi Das said today.
Talking to newspersons here, he said as soon as the electorate fill up the form 17(A) at the booth, the digital camera will capture their image and this will be done on a an experimental basis in the fist phase.
Mr Das said 14 booths and three auxilary booths are in Mahe,15 and one in Palloor, and 21 and six auxilaries in Yanam.
He said all facilities were being provided at the booths, including ramp for the benefit of the handicapped.
Two companies of para military forces were sent to Mahe and Yanam regions, he said and added that they would be utilised in the booths, while the state police would regulate the queue.
Based on a request from the Election Commission(EC) two senior police officials Ms Chaya Sharma IPS and Vivek Singh Kishore IPS, would be posted at Mahe and Yanam respectively on the polling day.
