New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the authorities to remove the slums from the five-acre land in Outram Lines near Delhi University immediately and construct a market complex.

A division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain said the authorities should remove the slums and hand over the plot for the construction of a market complex and a community centre as per the plan.

DDA Director (Land) S P Padhy in an affidavit said that the land was earmarked for the construction of a market complex and Community centre.

But the land mafia and slum dewellers by demolishing the boundary wall of the plot occupied the land before 1991.

There are about 475 slums out of which 109 were constructed before 1990 on the plot.

About 97 slum dwellers are entitled to 12.5 sq mtrs plots whereas 12 for 18 sq mtrs plots. The Court asked the DDA to consider the claims of the eligible slum dwellers only.
