Cong plea to Pondy women
Pondicherry, May 1 (UNI) AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik today appealed to women in the union territory to strive for the victory of the Congress 'to march ahead on the developments achieved in the last five years.' Addressing an election meeting organised by the Mahila Congress here this evening, Mr Wasnik said AICC President Sonia Gandhi, who recently addressed an election meeting here, proved that politics was not a vehicle to achieve power but means to serve the common man. Ms Gandhi was the voice of the voiceless and represented the aspiration of the poor and downtrodden people and her hands should be strengthened.
Mr Wasnik said those fighting against the Congress believed in distributing poverty but the Congress believed in distributing prosperity.
The AIADMK believed in slogans but the Congress belived in action. While the AIADMK believed in power, the Congress belived in selfless service.
He said the Congress believed in protecting the separate identity of Pondicherry as a place of culture, religion, music and dance and its unique culture and hertiage would be protected.
No society which left behind women will progress and the Congress was striving to empower them. Women will be given 33 per cent reservation in the local body elections which will be held here soon.
In his address, AICC Secretary in charge of Pondicherry Sudhakar Reddy said a Congress-led Government would be formed in Pondicherry after the elections and no force could prevent it.
