Chronology of massacres in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Suspected ultras have gunned down several members of the minority communities in Jammu and Kashmir since the inception of militancy in late 1980s and the large number of such killings have taken place in Doda district.

Following is the chronology of massacre of members of the minorities commmunities in Jammu and Kashmir since 1997.

March 20, 1997: Seven Kashmiri Pandits killed at Sangrampura in central Kashmir district of Badgam.

January 25-26, 1998: 25 Kashmiri Pandits killed at Wandhama in Ganderbal area of Srinagar district in Kashmir.

April 18, 1998: 27 Hindus killed in Prankote in Udhampur district of Jammu region.

June 19, 1998: 25 Hindus killed in Chapnari area of Doda district in Jammu region.

July 28, 1998: 16 Hindus killed in two villages of Doda District in Jammu region.

August 8, 1998: 35 labourers killed in Kalaban on Jammu-Himachal Pradesh border.

February 20, 1999: Four Hindus killed at Muraputta-Rajouri, nine at Barlyara-Udhampur and seven at Bllala-Rajouri in Jammu region.

June 30, 1999: 15 Hindu labourers killed in Anantnag district of south Kashmir.

July 19, 1999: 15 Hindus killed at Layata in Doda district of Jammu region.

February 28, 2000: Five Hindu drivers killed near Qazigund in Anantnag district of Kashmir.

March 20, 2000: 35 Sikhs massacred at Chattisinghpora in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

August 1, 2000: 31 people, including Amarnath pilgrims, killed at Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

August 1-2, 2000: 27 labourers gunned down in Qazigund and Achabal areas in Anantnag district of Kashmir.

August 2, 2000: Seven family members killed in frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.

August 2, 2000: 11 Hindus killed in Doda district of Jammu region.

February 3, 2001: Six Sikhs gunned down in Mehjoor Nagar in Srinagar.

February 11, 2001: 15 members of nomad (Gujjar) families massacred in Kot-Chadwal in Rajouri district of Jammu region.

March 2, 2001: 15 policemen and two medical assistants killed in Manjkote area of Rajouri in Jammu region.

March 17, 2001: Eight people massacred near Atholi in Doda of Jammu region.

July 21, 2001: 13 people, including seven Amarnath pilgrims, killed at Sheshnag in Anantnag.

July 22, 2001: 15 Hindus massacred in Cheerji and Tagood in Doda district of Jammu region.

August 4, 2001: 15 Hindus killed in Ludder-Sharotid Har area of Doda district of Jammu region.

January 7, 2002: 17 Hindus killed in Ramsoo area of Jammu region.

February 17, 2002: 8 Hindus killed in Rajouri area of Jammu region.

March 30, 2002: 12 Hindu devotees killed in Raghunath Temple in Jammu.

May 14, 2002: 32 people, most of them family members of the Army personnel, killed in Kaluchak near Jammu.

July 13, 2002: 28 Hindus killed in Kasim Nagar, Jammu.

August 6, 2002: Nine Amarnath pilgrims killed and 32 others wounded at Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir.

August 29, 2002: 10 Hindus killed in Rajouri district of Jammu region.

November 24, 2002: 14 Hindu devotees killed in an attack on Raghunath Temple in Jammu.

March 24, 2003: 24 Hindus killed in Nadimarg area of south Kashmir.

April 5, 2004: Seven people killed in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district in Kashmir.

May 1, 2006: 22 Hindus killed in remote villages of Panjdobi and Thava in Doda district of Jammu region.
